"Maybe a year..." Maybe not.
Hey, RBCola here, and I'm here to talk about my crappy relationship with this game and it's fate.
Deno's Deep Dive was an... ambitious idea to say the least. If i remember right, I made the 5 level demo in 5 months consecutively, constantly referencing off of older ideas and builds. While the project was fun, parts of me felt unsure about releasing it. This was half due to my inexperience and inability to code (like, at all), and the other half was the engine I was using, Pixel Game Maker MV. Because my coding knowledge was (and is still) close to zero, i relied on this codeless engine to take control of most of the difficult work of game development, which was my first and biggest mistake.
The engine is WAY to inconsistent, like how variables and if-then statements i constructed it would occasionally be ignored completely (like how sometimes the player takes no knockback), or how some simple enemy movements and detections completely break when the games frame rate gets changed to 30. and that's not to mention how ground movement momentum influences ANY in air movement, like jumping or boosting (whether i want it to or not). and after porting the project to the most recent PGMMV beta and finding none of those issues being changed, I've decided to put the Deno's Deep Dive project on indefinite hiatus.
Any time I come back to this project and the engine starts ignoring major gameplay functions, I get immediately disinterested in the project, and pushed to learn how to read GDscript even more. while (for now) this is the last of DDD you'll see, this isn't the last you'll see of me, my games, or Deno!
Have a nice day! :O)
